One Of The Times I Hate Hockey

February 11, 2008

Zednik’s injury last night was one of the most horrifying things I’ve seen in sports. It made me incredibly queasy for most of the night last night. And that’ s coming from someone who saw Clint Malarchuk’s injury happen, someone who saw Alex Zanardi lose both his legs during a race. Its just scary to think that this guy was literally dying on the ice. Its a sporting event, people shouldn’t die, you know? Kudos to the medical staff on both teams for getting everything under control so quickly. It easily could have been a lot worse (see John Vogl‘s blog on the News site for some “what ifs” about last night that really make you grateful things happened the way they did). Like Crunchy said, the whole thing was like a Tarantino flick. Gory, but you can’t stop watching.

You could tell that none of the players really wanted to finish the game; they were all inside their own heads at that time. And quite honestly, I wouldn’t blame them if they all went out and got shitfaced last night.

On a lighter note, congrats to Pat Kaleta for getting his first NHL goal in front of the home crowd. I love seeing the unabashed joy from players when they hit milestones.
